Ice Cream Teaser

Even though I say no to Midnight Snacks, I crave for "Ice Cream!" Check out this MV Teaser off of Hyuna's new upcoming solo album:

Jdonu Pork & Beef Grill

On a night where my wife and I couldn't find a parking slot to feed our aching tummies, we thought of Jdonu. It's a 24-hour open Korean restaurant right in the heart of Makati. Nothing fancy, the place looks like a house converted to restaurant. I've been longing to try this particular noodle soup and now was my chance. I did not know what it was called, but I definitely knew what it looked like in the menu. Apparently it's called "Budaejjigae" made out of rice, ham, sausage and noodles.

It was very hot (soup temperature) more than it was spicy. I could only taste the hotness of the soup and the "liver like" aftertaste of the sausage:

Loudbasstard: Naturally Awesome!

I was thinking to myself what reaction I'd get once I get to dock my phone on the Loudbasstard. My Korean friend Porka told me she'd buy me one as a gift.  It just so happened that she was attending a friend's wedding in Cebu that weekend. She posted pictures of it on her Instagram acount. Green one for me...Great! like a true bamboo should be! I was coming home for a long road trip but nevertheless insisted on getting it from her place. And so it was given to me. I tried it right away and true enough the piece of wood did not disappoint. It gave the my iPhone a bigger and better voice. Though I felt the sound amplified was the too much on the treble side, and kinda lacked bass. But hey main sound comes from an iPhone speaker, which sucks to begin with. Nevertheless, I'm still happy with my new toy: doesn't require electricity, doesn't waste time, and doesn't give a s*%t who it bothers with the loud sound it creates. I want to try it as an alarm clock, but I'm afraid I might hate it and never use it again. Still, this item can be considered as a good piece of wood.

Porko Dragon Outfit of The Day

Sunday is the Day where we go my in-laws, eat good home cooked grub, and go to church. So, it's definitely one reason to dress up nicely and somehow feel good about myself. I'm still miles away from my ideal body type, like the Koreans actors in soap operas and movies, where skinny jeans colorful tight-fit tops are a rule of thumb. So I had my photo taken before lunch. I tucked out my shirt after eating lunch of course!

Outfit contents:
Top - Blue button down shirt from Cotton On
Pants - Grey slacks from Forever 21
Shoes - White Brogues from JKJY by Stella
Sunglasses - Persol 649 black
Arm Swag - Leather knot bracelets from Hongdae Streets of Korea

What makes Drama Five Fingers worth watching

Photo from Asianwiki.com
Photo from Asianwiki.com

The reason why I started watching this drama was not because of the storyline, but rather the controversy that took place even before shooting began. I'm a huge fan of the girl group T-ara, and one of their members, Ham Eun-Jung (beige dress) was casted as one of the leading ladies. But ever since the T-ara scandal (where members were accused of bullying their fellow member Hwayoung), the producers of the drama eventually decided to remove Eun Jung from the drama. It was such a sudden, rash decision, as you can see promotional materials were already out, which included Eun Jung. She was replaced by actress Jin Se-yeon.

This drama is about a boy who suddenly was brought in to a new family by his biological Father, a rich owner of a piano manufacturing company, and set to live with his stepmother  and half brother. Father quickly shows favoritism to new son, stirring up jealousy from the half brother and stepmother. Stepmother murders Father, but Father leaves all his company shares to new found son. Step mother plots revenge and plans to ruin new found son's career as a genius pianist and owner of company, in order for half brother to succeed. To add to that, new found son's love interest turns out to be half brother's love interest as well. Sounds familiar doesn't it?? In other words, it's a show on how brilliantly scheming and evil the step mother half brother are, and how stupid new found son is. At many times during the drama, new found son shows sheer stupidity, not realizing that his family is obviously the ones behind all the bad things going on in his life. I'm halfway into the drama series, still hoping that new found son can come to his senses, and just beat the living shit out of his half family. But then that's not how dramas work right? So I guess I'm the dumber one for continuing to watch and hope new found son can turn things around.

Cast:

Actor Joo Ji Hoon playing Yoo Ji Ho (new found son)

Chae Shi-Ra playing Chae Young-Rang (step mother)

Ji Chang-Wook playing Yoo In-Ha (half brother)
Jin Se-Yeon playing Hong Da Mi (love interest)

Bubble Pop - Kpop's most flirtatous idol

Kim Hyuna is probably the next K-pop sexy queen. At the tender age of 20, she moves, acts, dances way more seductive than her age. She was a former member of the Wonder Girls, but her style probably did not fit the group's image. Currently, she's a member of the group 4minute. Since she stands out among the members, it's not surprising that she also has her solo gigs. I first saw her solo performance in KBS Music Bank with the song "Bubble Pop". The dance moves are unforgettable, as she could easily raise any testosterone level up. Her latest video is the female version of PSY's Gangnam Style (Oppa is Just My Style!). Boys, if you do not know Hyuna, you are missing out big time!

Han Ji Min - Best Actress

Photo from Han Ji Min Facebook Page
I have to post this since she is one of my favorite Korean actresses. Han Ji Min has been raking in the best actress award in the last two awards show held in Korea: Seoul International Drama Awards and Korea Drama Awards. She played as "Park Ha & Boo Young" in the drama Rooftop Prince, a fantasy romance comedy that involves time travel between the Joseon dynasty era and present time. When I first watched Rooftop Prince and first saw her, I did not really find her all that pretty (Check out the gif image and you'd probably agree with me lol). It's common with any drama, where the leading actress starts off with a rather mediocre, average look, then eventually gets a make over. More than her look, however, what made me fall for her character was her cute acting. She's not the seductive, hot girl I often see, but rather the girl next door that often needs a second look to appreciate. Though I had nothing against her acting, I sort of did not like the drama's ending. The build up was awesome though. But that's just my opinion. See it for yourselves.

Bulgogi Brothers - One of My Favorite Korean Restaurants

Ever since it opened in Greenbelt 5 Mall in Makati City, Philippines, I have frequented it enough to be considered a regular customer. However, I have yet to have a taste of everything on the menu, since I pretty much order the same food over and over again. Why you may ask? It's probably just my personality. When I like a particular food or recipe, it's pretty much a done deal. So here let me present to you all my "USUAL" at Bulgogi Brothers:

Hameul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake)
- Consists of flour, eggs, shallot tops, oysters,   squid, shrimp, mussels, red pepper and white onions

Chicken Bibimbap
- Chicken breasts, carrots, cucumber, spinach, sushi rice, chili bean paste (kochujang), eggs, white scallions, garlic, sesame seeds.

My Favorite: Bulgogi Brothers Special, which is a combination of "Unyang" Style Bulgogi and "Gwangyang" Style Bulgogi. Basically, Unyang Style are the heart shaped looking beef patties. They are cooked in a pan with no oil. Once it gets cooked it leaks out its own oil, which is then used to cook the Gwangyang Style Bulgogi (Beef Strips). Together these two variations make up for a wonderful and unforgettable meal. Until next time, all I can say is "Mashita!" (Delicious in Korean).

Lipstick by Orange Caramel: After School's Sub Unit

Orange Caramel is a trio girl group consisiting of kpop idols Nana, Raina, and Lizzy. They are part of a bigger girl group populary known as After School. They've gone to achieve a cuter and sweeter peg as compared to After School's sexier and seductive aura. Recently, they've released a new song called Lipstick. I'm actually very intrigued by their look, since my wife finds them "guiyupda" (Korean for cute:)) Notice their outfits: only Korean girl groups can pull off such a look and get away with it! Check out their performance of Lipstick from SBS Ingikayo yesterday:

PSY is not your 'one hit wonder' artist

For the last month or two, the world has been witness to the sudden gain in popularity of the dance craze and song "Gangnam Style". But for many of us including myself, what we don't know is that the acclaimed artist PSY isn't a jackpot artist or a mere rookie. Fact is, he has been in the Korean music industry for over a decade already. He is actually considered a "sunbae" (senior artist - one who has more experience) to the current roster of young, kpop idols on the scene today. Who would have thought that PSY would actually be the Korean artist to breakthrough worldwide. Let's learn more about him in an interview he did on a local Korean TV show on SBS called "Healing Camp". Here he talks about everthing from his childhood, his crazy years, his family, his miliatry service and see what a really good-hearted and good-natured person he truly is:

Happy Chuseok to all!

It's rare to see kpop idols wearing traditional hanboks (korean costume). So it got me wondering what this holiday Chuseok is really all about. From what I understand, Chuseok is a thanksgiving time Korens give to their ancestors. Unlike the western custom of Thanksgiving day, Chuseok focuses more on giving thanks to the spirit of their ancestors. At the same time, it's falls on the brightest full moon of the year. This means that all the fruits, vegetables, and other crops are at their ripest. Thus, it's the best time to harvest. Koreans all go home to their parents or elder's house, dress up formally, eat and pay respect to their ancestor's graves. So it's kind of like Thanksgiving day and All Soul's Day combined. Happy Chuseok everybody!

The Girl Group That Started This Obsession

It was one Friday afternoon on the month of either June or July, 2011. I was flipping through my television channels, when I stumbled upon KBS World. On air was the popular show called 'Music Bank'. I was drawn to the catchy beat but more so on the looks of the four ladies on my screen. I have a thing for ladies with sleet eyes. But what really got me to stop flipping and just plain watch was their choreography, specially during the chorus of the song. Check it out:
